Tomorrow the third edition of the 5G Forum starts, the first in virtual format, which will be held on May 6th and 7th. After the cancellation of the Mobile World Congress, the Virtual 5G Forum 2020 has become a unique opportunity to learn about the latest advances in 5G technology, concentrated in 2 days, with more than 30 speakers, and 20 minute keynotes in an agile format, so that anyone can have an overview of what is happening in 5G in the rest of the world and, above all, in Spain.
Viewers will have first hand views of the European Commission and Eurovision, and the latest on what is happening in Korea, China, Japan, USA, UK, France, Greece, Finland and Germany. In addition, you will find out everything that is being done in Spain: from the Ministry’s plans, to the main projects being developed in Barcelona, Seville, Malaga, Vitoria, Madrid and Valencia.
Peter Stuckmann, Head of the Future Connectivity Systems Unit of the European Commission, who will be the keynote speaker, will open the Virtual 5G Forum with a keynote on the vision and current state of 5G in Europe.
Maite Arcos, the Director General of Telecommunications and Audiovisual Communication Services Management, will also welcome all virtual attendees to the event.
Federico Ruiz, Director of the 5G National Observatory (ON5G), will follow with a report on 5G at such a key moment.
David Cierco, General Manager of Red.es, will introduce the participation of Vodafone Business which, through the General Manager of Vodafone Spain Companies, Daniel Jiménez, will show some of the 32 practical cases of use in which the operator is applying the benefits of 5G technology in the sectors of energy, industry, intelligent cities, tourism, agriculture, health and dependence, security, emergencies and defence, society and digital economy.
After Daniel Jiménez’s speech, there will be a panel session moderated by Francisco Javier García Vieira, Director of Digital Public Services of Red.es, with the participation of Rafael Alcaide, Territorial Director in Andalusia, Extremadura, Ceuta and Melilla of Vodafone Business; Raquel Barco, Vice-Chancellor of Smart Campus of the University of Malaga (UMA); Enrique Colilles, General Director of Trops; and Pilar Rodríguez, Strategy, Innovation& R&D Director of Altran.
This panel session will analyze the various use cases that are being carried out within the 5G pilot project of Vodafone Business, as well as the role that 5G is playing and will play in the exit of the coronavirus crisis.
José Angel López Mayoralas, Head of Solutions Validation Services for Cisco EMEAR & APJC, will explain to the participants of the Virtual 5G Forum, how the e-commerce leader in Japan, in collaboration with Cisco, has designed this pioneering network with end-to-end automation and virtualization of native cloud functions, becoming a 5G mobile provider with a level of disruption unique in the industry.
On the other hand, Daniel Borrás, director of Marketing and Business Development at Samsung Networks Europe, will present the trends in this country and also the next innovations around 5G technology.
In his keynote, Samsung will explain the importance of this cooperation and other keys to the successful development of 5G in Korea, as well as Samsung’s vision for the near future of this technology. Daniel Borrás will show the evolution of 5G and the next technological innovations from the company’s point of view, such as the millimeter band, Stand Alone architecture or virtualization.
After Daniel Borrás’ speech, Álvaro Villegas, Director of Nokia Bell Labs España, will present at the Virtual 5G Forum 2020 a device through which we will move from conventional video calls to “teleportation”, called “The Owl”. This device would be placed at a point within a group of people providing immersive audio and 360º vision to a person who is remotely connected with virtual reality glasses.
The Vice President of sales of Intracom Telecom for Italy, Spain, Portugal and Latin America, Ercole Rovida, will be responsible, on behalf of the European multinational, to advance the “mega-trends” that will be imposed in the coming years in the post-crisis Covid-19.
Afterwards, David Gonzalo, T&M Sales Manager of the multinational Rohde & Schwarz will give us an introduction to the free webinar that the company will offer on Thursday, May 7th at 2:30pm as part of the 5G Forum, entitled “5G network simulation for carrying out measurements on mobile devices”.
Under the title “5GENESIS Málaga, a 5G platform open to innovation”, Pedro Merino, technical director of the 5GENESIS project, will present at the Virtual 5G Forum the status of the project and the first tests with companies that will benefit from 5G, as well as other tests planned for the coming months.
For his part, Óscar Fajardo, CEO of Nemergent Solutions, will give details of the deployment and testing for communications between law enforcement agencies, such as the Local Police of Malaga.
On the second and last day of the 5G Virtual Forum will be the turn of operators, European projects and the situation of 5G in Spain.
José Capote, Director of Integrated Solutions for Operators at Huawei Spain, will be responsible for providing a global and Spanish overview of how 5G technology is reaching the market, and where early adoption is expected. He will be followed by Telefónica, represented by Mercedes Fernández, Innovation Manager; and Orange, with Luis Delgado, 5G Program Manager.
Hispasat, with Inés Sanz, Customer Engineering Manager, will explain why the satellite is key to bringing 5G to remote areas. On the other hand, Axión will give a brief introduction to the coverage systems in areas with a high density of users.
In addition, the pan-European 5G-IA project will give an overview of the pan-European 5G experiences, represented by one of its Board Members, Carles Antón-Haro.
Antón-Haro will explain the “roadmap” and the different phases in which 5G projects are found, such as 5GCAR, a case of use of connected vehicles; 5GMonarch, an interactive tourism project; and the 5GXcast project, of large-scale multimedia content distribution, among other cases of use of 5G technology.
One of the H2020 projects, Locus, will be presented by Raquel Barco, vice-chancellor of the Smart Campus of the University of Malaga. The Universidad Politécnica de Valencia will also be present, with Narcís Cardona, director of the i-Team.
The linear dissemination of content through 5G networks will be a topic addressed by Impulsa Visión RTVE, specifically by Esteban Mayoral, Deputy Director of Management of Impulsa Visión RTVE’s Innovation Center, Adolfo Muñoz, Director of Networks and Broadcasting at RTVE, María del Carmen Aguayo, professor at the University of Málaga, and David Jiménez, student at the University of Malaga.
Pere Vila, Director of Technological Strategy and Digital Innovation of RTVE will also present the new activities of RTVE in the area of 5G.
From the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Elena Puigrefagut, Senior Project Manager for Technology and Innovation at the EBU, will present from Switzerland the “5G Media Action Group (5G-MAG)” initiative recently launched by European public broadcasters.
Finally, and as a final touch to the 5G Forum, there will be a speech by Antonio Fernández-Paniagua, Deputy Director General of Planning and Management of the Radio Spectrum of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, who will be responsible for explaining the current situation of 5G in Spain, presenting the pilot projects being carried out in our country and addressing the postponement of the auction of 700 Mhz within the Second Digital Dividend.
