The 26 GHz band, partially intended for private networks
At the beginning of the year, the Council of Ministers announced the approval of a Royal Decree that would allocate a part of the 26GHz frequency band. With this, the qualifying titles may be allocated to private networks on a self-service basis.
As indicated by the European Commission, millimeter waves, centered on the 26GHz frequencies, are one of the three key bands for 5G, in addition to 3.5 GHz and 700 MHz. For this reason, the decision was made decision to allocate a part of this band for the creation of private 5G networks, which can be used, for example, in industries, factories or ports.
This reorganization of the 26GHz band, which was auctioned at the end of 2022, results in the concession without bidding of a part of it, which is great news for private 5G networks, since it will facilitate its use for industrial cases. in certain limited scope locations.
