28/04/2023

The city of Seville, two months after the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, will once again become the “boutique” scenario where the world’s leading experts, professionals and multinationals, including those from the United States and China, will meet to present the advances in 5G and future 6G technology.

From May 8 and during five days, two face-to-face and three virtual, the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Sevilla (FIBES), will be the meeting point for 5G leaders in a relaxed and personalized atmosphere, without the hustle and bustle of stressful agendas and commercial noise of the MWC in Barcelona.

The agenda of the sixth edition of the 5G Forum includes 40 selected papers and panels, with a 20% percentage of women, and presentations by US multinationals, such as Viavi Solutions, Tesla and 5G Americas; and Chinese giants Huawei and ZTE.

Precisely, the annual study of “The State of 5G”, commissioned worldwide by Viavi, reveals that 5G is already available in 2,497 cities in 92 countries, and that Spain ranks seventh in terms of deployment, ahead of India, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, etc.

The ranking is headed by the United States, China, Finland, Canada, South Korea,… and Spain is at a similar level to Japan and Great Britain. Precisely, in addition to the giants of the United States and China, multinationals from Finland, Sweden, Great Britain, France, Germany and Spain are also participating in the 5G Forum in Seville, which has great international prestige.

Arizona-based VIAVI Solutions has appointed Genis Sanchez, EMEA PLM Director, Wireless Test, to explain the company’s advances in safe electromagnetic radiation in 5G: new verification methods and new test procedures for assessing electromagnetic field (EMF) power levels of 5G signals in code-selective mode, which are now being discussed for adoption by various regulatory agencies in Europe.

Sanchez asserts that 5G is “a technology that is very sensitive to any aspect of timing and synchronization. And if it is not guaranteed that these networks operating in parallel are correctly synchronized with each other, they generate interference and a drop in the quality of services.”

Viavi manufactures test and monitoring equipment for networks. It also develops optical technology used for a range of applications including materials quality control, anti-counterfeit currency and 3D motion detection, including Microsoft’s Kinect video game controller. VIAVI Solutions has nearly 4,000 employees worldwide.

Also present for another year at the ‘5G Forum 2023’ will be the US company owned by Elon Musk, Tesla. Specifically, in the exclusive demo area of FIBES, on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 May, attendees at the conference will be able to enjoy several smart cars that the company will exhibit, as well as a driving experience with them in a closed circuit. This automotive giant is headquartered in Texas and has more than 70,000 employees around the world.

In terms of technological associations, the ‘5G Forum 23‘ will feature 5G Americas. Its Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, José Otero, will talk about the opportunities that Spanish technology companies have in the Americas, especially in Latin America.

For its part, the Chinese Huawei, which has more than 200,000 employees worldwide, will have the intervention of Miguel Barroso, 5G Solutions Architecture Expert, who will speak about the term 5.5G, the evolution towards 6G.

The technology company Huawei has invested 25.1% of its 2022 revenue, about $23.2 billion, in R&D investments. One example is the latest report from the European Patent Office, which ranks Huawei as the company with the most applications on the continent, with 4,505 patents filed in 2022.  In addition, over the last few years the company has created 86 technology labs around the world that delve into different technologies, from connectivity with 5G and 5.5, artificial intelligence or software, with open source ecosystems such as OpenFuler and OpenHarmony.

In turn, the Chinese multinational telecoms company ZTE -with 80,000 employees in 160 countries-, a global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, will also be present at the ‘5G Forum 2023’. Victor Pascual, CTO in Spain and Portugal of this great technology company, will share his presentation entitled “Accelerating the Industrial Revolution“.

The Chinese company has been recognized as one of the world leaders in reducing its environmental impact by the Carbon Disclosure Project. Thanks to its initiatives against climate change, ZTE has obtained an “A-” rating by this reference organization in the analysis of the performance of companies around the world in climate commitment. It has also been awarded the China 2022 Environmental Leadership Award.
