SPANISH MULTINATIONALS LEAD THE WAY IN 5G AND 6G

25/04/2024
  • A total of 12 Spanish entities will be present at this seventh edition of the 5G Forum 24.
  • The three main operators in Spain, MasOrange, Telefónica and Vodafone, have also joined.
  • Axion will show the different uses of 5G in the telecommunications sector: audiovisual, critical communications and indoor coverage.
  • Sergio Ceresuela, Director of Business Development and Operations at OFG Telecommunications, will address the development of 5G networks in Europe, Latin America and the United States.
  • Netmetrix CEO Pablo Álvarez will talk about the great forgotten ones in 5G testing.
  • Carlos Alonso, Applications Manager at WaveControl, will discuss the complexity of electromagnetic field measurements in 5G.
  • Sergio Cabrero, senior researcher at Vicomtech and coordinator of the 6GDifferent project, will present the research they are conducting to address the challenges of the future of mobile communications.

The seventh edition of the 5G Forum, “Where 5G leaders meet”, will feature 12 Spanish entities and organizations (Netmetrix, OFG, Vicomtech, Wavecontrol, Axion, UMA -University of Malaga- Gradiant, Hispasat, Gsertel, AI Funded, Opossum and Gamma Solutions) that are benchmarks in 5G and that will tell the latest advances in this technology showing the way to 6G. They will also be joined by the operators MasOrange, Telefónica and Vodafone. The event will take place at the Nissan Cartuja Auditorium in Seville from May 6 to 10 in hybrid format, with two face-to-face sessions -Monday May 6 and Tuesday May 7- and three virtual sessions -May 8, 9 and 10-.

International expansion of the 5G Network

Sergio Ceresuela, Director of Business Development and Operations at OFG, will address the development of 5G networks around the world through this multinational company that “provides growth and 5G network solutions to Mobile Operators” around the globe. OFG has a vital role in the worldwide deployment of 5G networks from Europe to Latin America -where the complexities of deployment in jungle areas are added-, including the new implementation of services in the United States for operators such as AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile.

On the other hand, Pablo Alvarez, General Manager at Netmetrix, will talk about the great forgotten in 5G testing: “Normally when testing 5G, one always asks about performance, functionality, interoperability… that is, does it work? But there are 2 very important elements that are often overlooked… synchronism… and testing in as realistic an environment as possible.”

The future of mobile communications: 6GDifferent

The Cervera Network of Excellence research project called 6GDifferent, led by the Vicomtech technology center, aims to take the advance of 5G networks one step further and will present “the technological challenges of the future of mobile communications”, according to its coordinator Sergio Cabrero. The alliance of the technology centers Vicomtech, Gradiant and i2CAT has given rise to this research project based on “the development of new technologies, the creation of experimentation platforms and the implementation of demonstrators”.

From a more technical point of view, Carlos Alonso, Applications Manager at Wavecontrol, will address the “simplification of electromagnetic field measurements in 5G” in this seventh edition of the 5G Forum. “5G technology has imposed strong challenges to electromagnetic field measurement for the protection of people. I will present an approach based on measurement with broadband equipment, which results in a simple and straightforward measurement method that provides real measurements of maximum and typical exposure.”

Also, Axion, national wholesale operator of telecommunications infrastructures and services, will be the protagonist with a panel of experts moderated by Cristina León, who will address 5G and the different uses in the telecommunications sector – audiovisual, critical communications and indoor coverage. The participants in this session will be Manuel Garrido, head of Telecommunications of RTVA, Francisco Manuel Pérez, head of Civil Protection of the City of Seville and Álvaro Ontañón CIO of Merlin Properties.

Victoria Network, advanced 5G and 6G

Pedro Merino, Director of the Institute of Technology and Software Engineering at the University of Malaga, will bring to all attendees of the 5G Forum 24 the details of the Victoria Network, an experimentation platform for advanced 5G and 6G mobile networks managed by the MORSE group at ITIS, which is a key European reference for the success of 16 projects of the FP7, H2020 and Horizon Europe programs, as well as support for numerous national projects and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR).

Satellite networks (NTN), security and 5G tools

José Joaquín Escudero, Head of Advanced Mobile Communications at Gradiant, will give an introduction to “5G network security, which represents a significant change with respect to the previous 4G generation”. Meanwhile, José Luis Alcolea, Head of 5G Strategy at Hispasat, will address the projects of this multinational company that will facilitate the use and integration of technology that allows global access to the Internet through satellite or non-terrestrial networks (NTN) 5G and 6G. “The 5G NTN concept refers to the incorporation of satellite communications into the 3GPP framework. After more than 25 years of incompatibility, satellite will finally be able to integrate with 5G (and 6G) mobile communications standards.

Santiago Otero, head of 5G development at Gsertel, will present 5G Broadcast. “A standard that is gaining special importance in recent years, as the fusion of the world of telephony with the world of television takes place thanks to 5G Broadcast and new services and tools will appear that will expand the scope of broadcasting.”

Al Funded, from its director Eugenia Taillefer, will talk about Chatbots in 5G networks. “There will be demonstrations of how chatbots based on language models can be implemented in 5G environments.” For his part, Gabriel R. Gonzálvez, CEO of Opossum, will bring attendees closer to the world of “Extended Reality and innovation”. The Extremaduran company Gamma Solutions has also joined this seventh edition.

MasOrange, Telefónica and Vodafone at the 5G Forum 2024

The three main operators will talk about their latest advances in 5G technology. On behalf of MasOrange, Miguel Ángel Victoria, Head of IoT B2B, and Angélica Sánchez, Business and Marketing Director at Orange, will explain the advantages of this technology in both the residential and business markets.

Telefónica will be present with a session with the participation of Juan Cambeiro, Head of 5G customer projects, and Ángel Álamo, Head of LAN and 5G Marketing, which will review the present and future of “one of the most transformative technologies that have been deployed in recent years”. David Artuñedo, Head of Future Networks Lab at TID, will also give a presentation on the Future Networks Lab projects in Andalusia.

César Antón, Network as a Platform Design and Development Manager at Vodafone Business, will address the standardization of API networks.

The 5G Forum has established itself as a reference forum in the technology sector, as it is a unique showcase with a multidisciplinary vocation to publicize each year the use cases and success stories of operators, companies, universities and institutions.

All the presentations of this and previous editions can be viewed through ‘The Observatory‘, the digital platform of Medina Media Events, where all the interventions will be available 24/365 for on-demand consumption, like Netflix, but free of charge.

The seventh edition of ‘5G Forum‘ is organized by Medina Media Events and is supported by MasOrange, Telefónica, Red Hat, Netmetrix, Huawei, ZTE, Mavenir, OFG, Vicomtech, Wavecontrol, Axión, the University of Málaga (UMA), Viavi Solutions, Nokia, Rohde & Schwarz, Gradiant, Hispasat, Gsertel, AI Funded, Opossum and Gamma Solutions, among others.
