EUROPE’S NEXT GENERATION TELECOMS AT THE ‘5G FORUM’ IN SEVILLE

  • Up to six European countries will be represented in this sixth edition: Spain, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Finland and Sweden.
  • European associations such as the European Broadcasting Union, the 5G-MAG or the 6G-IA will complete an exclusive agenda.
  • Multinationals from the United States (Viavi Solutions) and China (Huawei and ZTE) will also participate in this sixth edition.

European telecoms will be present at the 5G Forum 2023 in Seville, which will be held from May 8 to 12 at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Sevilla (FIBES), with two on-site and three virtual days. Up to six European countries will be represented at this edition. France with Orange and Capgemini; Finland with Nokia; Sweden with Ericsson; Germany with Rohde & Schwarz and Vantage Towers; United Kingdom with Vodafone; and Spain with companies such as Telefónica, Netmetrix, Minsait, OFG, Gsertel, Hispasat, Axión or Impulsa RTVE, will make up the European representation in this event.

In addition, important European associations of the sector will also participate in this sixth edition. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), AEVAC (Spanish Association of the Connected Autonomous Vehicle), the 5G-MAG or the 6G IA, will present their latest news and advances at the 5G Forum 2023.

In this sixth edition of the 5G Forum there is a large representation of Spanish companies that did not want to miss this event. An example of this is Telefónica, which will be present on the opening day with a presentation by Leonor Ostos, Innovation Manager, who will offer an analysis of the present and future of 5G, as well as its impact on digital transformation.

In the virtual modality, the representative of this Spanish multinational will be Juan Cambeiro. The head of 5G Customer Innovation will discuss the future of 5G with StandAlone and Millimetrics, all from the customer’s point of view.

Minsait, a company belonging to Indra, is one of the leading global technology and consulting companies. Daniel García Manteiga, Minsait’s Director Products and Business Development for Telco & Media, will be attending the 5G Forum. He will give a presentation on solutions for private networks, both in 5G and 6G, through Data and Artificial Intelligence.

Netmetrix, specialists in telecommunications, testing and cybersecurity, will be represented by Pablo Álvarez, General Manager. His speech will focus on the importance of testing in 5G. To ensure that 5G networks work properly and deliver the intended user experience, rigorous testing is essential. His presentation will outline some of the reasons why testing is so important in 5G networks.

Sergio Ceresuela, OFG’s Business Development Director, will explain to the attendees the path that this company is developing with end-to-end solutions for the deployment of 5G networks. OFG is an international group with more than 22 years of experience in the telecommunications sector, providing comprehensive services to meet the needs of its customers, among which are mainly operators.

Gsertel, which is part of Televés Corporation, will be present through Maura Outeiral, 5G Technical Product Manager. In her presentation she will explain, among other issues, the adaptation of a portable analyzer that Gsertel is bringing to the market. This useful device, in the words of Maura Outeiral, “will have PSS and SSS symbol identification, synchronization block measurements, MIB and SIB decoding and iSSB detection”, among other new features.

For its part, Hispasat, a Spanish communications satellite operator that offers coverage in America, Europe and North Africa will also be present at the ‘5G Forum 2023’. José Luis Serrano, Innovation and Product Strategy Manager of the company, will be in charge of talking about the “Smart5GSAT”.

On the other hand, Axion, one of the references in terms of telecommunications infrastructure management in Spain, will be another of the protagonists in this sixth edition. Cristina Peñas, Commercial Director, will represent this Sevillian company at the 5G Forum.

RTVE, through Urbano García, Director of Innovation and Digital, will reflect on “RTVE, facing the challenge of 5G and lA”. Also from RTVE will be Pere Vila, Director of Technology Strategy of RTVE and President of UHD Spain, who will talk about the possibilities of Ultra High Definition transmission through 5G.

French multinationals to attend the 5G Forum

Two of the leading French companies related to the world of technology will be present at the 5G Forum 2023. They are Orange and Capgemini.

Javier Olveira, Presales Director, will be in charge of Orange Spain to talk about the different private networks that can be found today in 5G. It should be noted that Olveira has a long career in the telecommunications world, with more than 15 years in the company.

Also, during the virtual conference, the French multinational will hold an interesting panel in which it will discuss the importance of the Metaverse and why companies and multinationals are entering this world, as well as the future of this technology. Participating in this session will be Angélica Sánchez, Business & Marketing Director; Miguel Ángel Almonacid, Network Strategy Director; and Rafa Pérez Gutiérrez, Products, Services, Devices & Strategic Partnerships Director.

Capgemini will also participate, through a panel that will talk about Network Slicing and new revenue models. Luis Manuel Díaz de Terán, Director of Telecommunications and Services, and Shamik Mishra, Vice president CTO, Connectivity, will speak on behalf of the French company. Cayetano Carbajo, Director for Core, Transport and Service Platforms, GCTIO of Telefónica will also speak. This French company is one of the world leaders in engineering and R&D services, bringing global experience and capabilities, cutting-edge technologies and an industrialized execution model.

Nordic companies Nokia and Ericsson, repeat at the 5G Forum 2023

The Nordic multinationals Nokia and Ericsson will once again be present at the sixth edition of the 5G Forum. The Finnish Nokia will be represented by Jaime Ruiz, Innovation Manager. In his presentation he will talk about the new facilities and tools available to developers of applications in 5G and B5G networks, such as Network as Code, Nokia’s concept of simplifying network capabilities, which make them part of the new applications.

Sweden’s Ericsson will be the other Nordic representative at the event. They will be present talking about the change towards more sustainable networks through Noelia Lopez, Sustainability and AI Marketing Driver. Lopez has more than 16 years of experience in the technology sector, mainly in business development and technology consulting roles, where she works closely with communications service providers. He holds a master’s degree in telecommunications (ETSIT, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) and a master’s degree in finance (UAH, Universidad de Alcalá de Madrid). While working in the UK, Noelia was part of the Inspirational Women Committee, which focuses on promoting girls’ interest in technology and developing women’s careers within Ericsson.

Germany is very much present at the 5G Forum

Rohde & Schwarz is a German international electronics group specializing in the fields of electronic test equipment, transmission and media, cybersecurity, radiomonitoring, radiolocation and radio communication, which is based in Germany and also did not want to miss this sixth edition of the 5G Forum, an event in which they have been participating since its first edition in 2018.

Germán Martín, Applications Engineer, will be in charge of presenting the company’s point of view on how the road to 6G is going. He will go over standards and regulatory roadmaps, as well as areas of study that could form the basis of 6G.

Vantage Towers will be the other Teutonic multinational present at the 5G Forum. With around 83,000 sites in ten countries, it is one of the leading tower companies in Europe. Juan de Miguel, Head of Strategy and Technology Innovation, will speak about indoor coverage and Small Cells.

Two women will represent British Vodafone

Vodafone will also be present at this edition of the 5G Forum. The British company will be represented by two women, who will bring the company’s point of view on this technology.

Fini Irles, Head of Network Engineering at Vodafone, will propose to continue “Innovating beyond 5G”, with complementary approaches to be able to reach remote and rural environments more efficiently and quickly thanks to Open RAN, and the joint initiative with AST and the use of 5G in a box prototype satellites that will democratize accessibility.

Irles is a team leader in the telecommunications sector with experience in strategic planning, design and implementation of new technologies (5G, NB-IoT and digitization and automation) and development of new products and services such as virtual private networks and edge computing. She is used to lead international and high performance teams and has experience in coaching people both within Technology and in other functional areas.

On the other hand, Irene Velasco, Senior Open RAN Engineer at Vodafone, will bring everything related to Open RAN: the present and future of mobile networks, as well as being specialized in open source software applied to 5G. Velasco has extensive experience in everything related to mobile networks and network strategy.

Also, once again, the 5G Forum crosses borders with the participation of multinationals from the United States such as Viavi Solutions and Tesla and from China such as Huawei and ZTE.

European associations also join the ‘5G Forum 23’

Different European associations related to the world of technology did not want to miss this event either. The EBU, the 5G-MAG and the 6G-IA will be some of the participants.  

The European Broadcasting Union, through Elena Puigrefagut, Senior Project Manager, will be in charge of opening the fourth day. In this presentation, a series of innovative projects they are currently working on will be presented. The 5G Broadcast, which is already standardized as a broadcasting technology or the revolutionary 5G Emerge, which will allow access to audiovisual content anywhere, no matter how remote, thanks to a system that combines satellite with the flexibility of 5G.

Jordi J. Giménez, Chief Technology Officer of 5G-MAG, from the 5G Media Action Group will give the keys to 5G media. From the 5G-MAG they have undertaken the task of driving the implementation of connected media applications, from the conception of use cases, through the configuration and profiling of standards.

On the other hand, the 6G-IA, through Carles Antón, Governing Board Member, will give the key strategies for the development of 6G from the point of view of the companies of the Joint Initiative Smart Networks and Services (JU-SNS). His presentation will address the first set of reflections and strategic recommendations for the development of 6G smart networks and services, which are included in the position paper recently published by the 6G-IA.

Also, AEVAC (Spanish Association of the Connected Autonomous Vehicle) will have its participation through Aitor Fernandez, President and Co – Founder. He will bring visitors closer to the evolution of 5G through connected vehicles.

The sixth edition of the 5G Forum, organized by Medina Media Events, is promoted by Sevilla City Office and Fibes and has the support of the Junta de Andalucía and the Agencia Digital de Andalucía, as well as Orange, Telefónica, Viavi Solutions, Ericsson, Capgemini Engineering, Rohde & Schwarz, Minsait, Netmetrix, OFG, ZTE, Huawei, Vantage Towers, Vodafone, Nokia, Gsertel, Hispasat, Axión and Impulsa Visión RTVE.
