The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, given the new national and international situation, will carry out a detailed review of how the implementation of 5G is in Spain at the 5G Forum 2022, the main multidisciplinary and specific event on 5G and 6G that celebrates its fifth edition this year, starting on May 9 in Seville in person and extending another four days with more than 50 conferences and virtual panels.
After the coronavirus pandemic, the invasion of Ukraine, the energy crisis, the inflationary turbulence and the surprising merger of Orange and Más Móvil, the 5G Forum in Seville is presented as the ideal setting to update annually, as without fail since 2018, the implementation of 5G and the future 6G in Spain.
The General Director of Telecommunications, Arturo Azcorra, will open the meeting together with the Mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz, at the FIBES Conference Center, but will also offer a presentation on the second day of the meeting on the Recovery Plan for the sector and the actions of the Ministry for the 5G and 6G Boost in the coming years.
For his part, the deputy director general Antonio Fernández-Paniagua will explain on the third day the news, the current and future situation of spectrum distribution, which will undergo relevant changes if the announced merger of Orange with Más Móvil is authorized by the community and Spanish authorities , with which Spain will see the number of operators reduced from 4 to three to distribute the 5G spectrum, together with Telefónica and Vodafone.
Azcorra and Fernández-Paniagua will be joined on the fourth day by Federico Ruiz, head of the National 5G Observatory (ON5G), a collaborating entity of the Ministry, to give an overview of the 10 pilot projects developed in Spain, which are exploring 122 use cases and applications.
“The objective of the 5G National Plan is that when 5G reaches its technological and commercial maturity, Spain is prepared to make the most of the opportunities of this new technological paradigm,” Azcorra advances about his presentation.
The fourth edition of the 5G Forum in 2021 managed to attract up to a total of 28 sponsors (the vast majority multinationals and private companies), with large companies from the United States, China and Europe, such as Telefónica, Ericsson, Qualcomm, Cisco, Mavenir, Rohde & Schwarz, Keysight Technologies, Cellnex Huawei, ZTE, Hispasat, Nearby Computing, Televes, Impulsa Vision RTVE, Nokia, Axión, DEKRA, NetNumber and municipalities such as Seville, Malaga and Marbella, among others.

Although the 5G Forum is a national event, last year’s virtual edition already aroused great international attention and more than 750 executives from 281 companies from 18 countries participated: 18 countries: Brazil, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Andorra and Spain.
